St Mirren have appointed former Scotland international goalkeeper David Marshall as their new head coach, in a move that could kickstart the club's reconstruction process.

Marshall, who played for Scotland at both under-21 and senior level, has been with St Mirren since 2017 and has helped them secure promotion from the Scottish Football League First Division in each of the last two seasons.

But after a disappointing campaign last season which saw them finish just outside the play-off places, the club is looking to rebuild and Marshall's appointment is seen as a key step forward.

In a statement released by the club, chairman Bill Bower said: "We're delighted to announce the appointment of David Marshall as our new head coach.

"He's a proven manager with a wealth of experience in the game, having previously managed clubs such as Hamilton Academical and Motherwell.

"We're confident he can lead us on this journey towards rebuilding our squad and returning to where we belong."

The appointment comes just days after the club announced the departure of long-serving boss Alan Archibald, who had led the team to promotion in each of his first two years in charge.

Archibald will remain with the club as part of the coaching staff, while Marshall will take charge of all aspects of the team's training and match preparation.

With Marshall now in charge, the club hopes to see a return to form under his leadership and help them achieve their goal of playing in the top flight once again.

Overall, it looks like Marshall is well equipped to guide St Mirren back to their winning ways and kickstart the club's reconstruction process.
